Our First Spin: Pottery Wheel Intro is a single introductory class, perfect for beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with the wheel.

Come with a friend, make it a date, or carve out some special time for yourself.

Over the course of this 2½ hour session, our expert instructors will guide you through the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel.

We provide unlimited clay throughout your class, after which you can select your favourite piece for firing.

Our skilled studio technicians will then trim, fire, and glaze your piece in a food-safe, dishwasher-safe clear gloss glaze, highlighting the natural beauty of the clay and ready for everyday use.

Good to Know

We provide aprons; just wear something you don't mind getting a little clay on.

Is this a good intro to pottery class if I've never touched clay?
It's made for exactly that. First Spin is our intro to pottery class, built for complete beginners: one session at the pottery wheel, unlimited clay, and an instructor beside you from your first attempt at centering to your finished piece. Most people who sit down at our wheels have never touched clay before.

Is First Spin a one time pottery class, or a course?
One time. First Spin is a taster class, a single 2.5 hour session, not the first week of a course. You get the whole arc in miniature: throwing on the wheel, choosing your favourite piece, and having it trimmed, fired and glazed by our studio technicians. If it leaves you wanting more, the multi-week courses are the next step.

What is wheel throwing, exactly?
Wheel throwing is making pots on a spinning pottery wheel: centering a ball of clay, opening it up, and pulling the walls into shape. It looks effortless when an instructor does it, and feels wonderfully strange the first time you try. In your session you will learn the basics and throw pieces of your own.

Can I come on my own, or bring someone?
Either. Plenty of people come solo and treat it as time for themselves. Others bring a friend, or make it a date: clay, good company, and something you made to show for it.
